MUSICAL THEATRE classes
Emphasis is placed on body integration, loco-motor skills, rhythm, and timing, creating dance memory to increase audition skills and performance skills. We will also incorporate tap. Dance is a discipline that requires time and patience for students. Returning students will continue to improve and learn new terms, combinations and dance styles.
Our goal for a student is to increase body awareness, flexibility, stamina, and acquire a language of the dance to help increase dance memory, improving dance memory thru different styles and dance combinations associated with Musical Theatre. Additionally, students will perfect their goals to improve and conquer the DANCE AUDITION and prepare for many different styles of Musical Theatre performance.
1. Explore the use of gravity, rhythm, and energy. Explore ear training for tap steps.
2. Provide floorwork, pilates, and varied dance combinations, including multiple musical theatre styles (ballet terms, jazz, tap).
3. Improve the student's physical abilities and give guidance on how to prevent injuries thru warm up and dance techniques.
4. Promote confidence in the student thru technique and guidance.
5. Improve the student's ability to do a DANCE AUDITION for Musical Theatre Productions -including tap auditions.

We are headed in a new direction! Since the summer of 2015, Dessert Theatre has been an opportunity for kids to learn and excel in performance. I was in a similar group in Cincinnati as a kid and learned the aspects of performance that can't be taught in a classroom by performing in front of an audience. By the time I was 16, I was working professionally. I don't think I would have been ready for that first professional audition and that first professional job had it not been for those early opportunities to get out on stage in front of an audience.
Dessert Theatre will now become an even bigger training ground by offering more performances outside of nursing homes and assisted living facilities - PLUS - our older Dessert Theatre members will get a chance to Write, Direct and Choreograph student productions performed for the Fleur-De-Lis school and family members when we are not working on an upcoming show!
Kids ages 9 to 18 are eligible to become members. We will meet once a week in a class specifically designed to learn and be trained in every aspect of PERFORMANCE: Singing, Dancing, Acting, Stage Presence, Technical aspects of a touring show and Collaboration. ( I am adapting this class from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music directing classes and student directed productions.)
Our goal in becoming a member of the FLEUR-DE-LIS family at the MELLWOOD ART CENTER is to have an Ampitheater and a Blackbox Theater where we can stage our own productions and continue the work in our community; until that dream is realized, we will have DESSERT THEATRE for our younger talent to fill all of those performance needs. Students will be offered service hours for performances as this is a giving back to their community as they perform and then serve dessert to their audiences!
